Slowmade is our commitment to intention — where time, care and restraint shape every product we create.
LUMINUS began with handmade soap, created slowly in small batches in my Tasmanian studio. That same approach continues today as our focus has evolved into thoughtfully formulated hair care, alongside a small collection of body care.
For me, slowmade is more than a way of working.
It is a philosophy.
Every LUMINUS formulation begins with an idea, then develops through ingredient selection, formulation, testing and refinement. I take the time to observe, learn and adjust until each product feels considered, balanced and right.
Nothing is rushed simply because it can be.
Small by design
Working in small batches allows me to stay close to the products I make.
I can pay attention to texture, performance and consistency, refine a formulation when something can be better, and make thoughtful decisions rather than simply producing more.
It also means I choose ingredients for what they contribute — not because they are fashionable or because more is somehow better.
Every ingredient earns its place.
Above my desk, a whiteboard reads:
“Be Better. Do Better.”
Simple words, but a useful reminder.
There is always something to learn. A formula can be refined. A process can be improved. Packaging can be reconsidered. Small decisions add up.
Time is part of the formulation
Slowmade doesn't mean slow for the sake of it.
It means allowing enough time to make good decisions.
Some ideas are tested and refined. Some don't make it into the collection at all. And sometimes the best decision is to leave something out.
That restraint is important to LUMINUS.
