Why I Finally Made Beard Oils
For years, people asked me to create a beard oil, and for years, I held off.
The more I researched what was available, the more I found the same things: oils that felt heavy, overly fragranced, greasy, or focused mainly on the beard rather than the skin underneath.
Men would tell me:
“My beard feels rough.”
“My skin is easily irritated.”
“Most beard oils feel too greasy for me.”
It made me realise there was room for a different kind of beard oil — one designed with both beard and skin in mind.
So I decided to create a small, considered range.
How I Formulated Them
When I finally sat down to create these, I approached them in the same way I approach everything at LUMINUS: slowly, intentionally and with a clear purpose.
I chose oils for the way they feel, perform and work together:
- Lightweight and comfortable on the skin
- Naturally conditioning without unnecessary heaviness
- Suitable for everyday use
- Fragrance-free options for those who prefer them
- Lightly scented options for those who enjoy a little fragrance
Abyssinian, Meadowfoam and Plum Kernel oils became part of the foundation because they have a beautiful skin feel and leave the beard soft, conditioned and naturally polished without an overly oily finish.
Other botanical oils are chosen for what they contribute to the finished formulation — supporting softness, smoothness and easy manageability while keeping the overall feel light.
Every ingredient earns its place.
No unnecessary complexity. No heavy finish.
Just considered botanical blends designed to care for both beard and skin.
Why Beard Care Matters
A beard doesn't exist separately from the skin underneath it.
When the skin feels comfortable and the beard is properly conditioned, the whole thing becomes easier to care for — softer to the touch, smoother to manage and more comfortable throughout the day.
That is what I wanted from LUMINUS beard oils.
